MUW Office of Career Services host `Saluting All Heroes’ event
COLUMBUS, Miss. – On Thursday, Sept. 8, the Office of Career Services at Mississippi University for Women and local military branches will salute Sept. 11 heroes and thank those who have served and are continuing to serve the country.
The "Saluting All Heroes" event will be held at the gazebo field in front of McDevitt Hall on campus from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Towanda Williams, MUW assistant director of career services, said, “We would like to involve the entire campus with a campus wide moment of silence at 11:15. Representatives from our local branches and civil service offices will be on campus to share in this event and offer career/internship opportunities for our students. We'd love to include all our faculty/staff/students who are currently enlisted and veterans as well.”
She added, “As children we were taught to always say thank you when someone gave you something or did something for you. September 11th reminds us not to forget and to always say thank you to those that gave their lives and those that work so we continue to live and enjoy our freedom.”
Members of the local high school band will present the National Anthem along with a color guard salute. There will be information booths, fun activities following the ceremony and a reception in the Claudia A. Limbert Assembly Room.
Williams added they would be collecting old cell phones to be exchanged for phone card minutes for soldiers currently serving overseas. Drop off boxes will be provided during the event.
