MUW Police Department gets a `Charge’

COLUMBUS, Miss.  – Two new additions to Mississippi University for Women’s Police Department will welcome faculty, staff and students back to campus this fall.

The police department received 2011 Dodge Chargers just a few weeks ago, according to MUW Police Chief Kennedy Meaders.

Equipped with a safety cage and front push bumper, the cars will be used primarily for patrol.

“The cars will greatly help reduce speeding. Having marked patrol units on campus also serve as a deterrent,” Meaders said, noting that he believes officers who have good and safe equipment perform their jobs better and professionally.

“I feel that having the resources for officers to perform their duties safely and effectively is a good thing,” he added.

The cost to purchase both vehicles was about $53,500. They were funded from savings in the general budget and from revenues generated by parking decals and tickets.
