Campus diversity celebrated during international program at MUW
COLUMBUS, Miss. – Mississippi University for Women will celebrate campus diversity during an international program scheduled for March 28th and 29th.
Kevin Patrick, MUW coordinator of international student services, said, "More than ever college students are graduating and entering into a more global society. The influence and impact that international students have on a college campus is significant. We hope that these events will generate more international interest throughout our campus and community.”
The “International Flags Ceremony” will be held on Monday in The W Room of Hogarth Student Center at 2 p.m. At this inaugural event, the permanent display of flags from the countries the students represent will be presented. As MUW’s international student body grows, more flags will be added. Students also will display traditional dress and dance unique to their cultures.
MUW’s campus includes about 40 students from approximately 20 countries.
The “Festival of Colors” will take place Tuesday on the Demonstration school field at 2 p.m. This annual event is celebrated in parts of Southeast Asia and heralds the beginning of spring. People celebrate the festival by throwing colored powder and water at each other.
Both events are free and open to the public. For more information, call Patrick at (662) 241-6405.
