Center for Creative Learning at MUW receives ‘Pneuma Award’
COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Roger F. Wicker Center for Creative Learning at Mississippi University for Women recently received the “Pneuma Award” from the Genesis Dream Center in Columbus at a community recognition ceremony.
The Center for Creative Learning was presented with the top award in recognition of “breathing life into the center” for its work with the Genesis Center’s Crossroads after-school program.
A project shared in partnership with the Genesis Center, Crossroads is an after school and summer enrichment program for middle school youth funded by a 21st Century Community Learning Center grant through the Mississippi Department of Education. For the past five years, the program has provided services in academics, leadership and the fine and performing arts to more than 800 youth.
Staff members of the Center for Creative Learning are delighted about the award and their work with the Genesis Center.
Kate Brown, director of the Center for Creative Learning said, “We believe strongly in the mission and work of the Genesis Center and are so proud to be the recipient of this award.”
Since its inception in 2004, the Center for Creative Learning has secured more than $8.4 million through its three key goals: to support economic and social advancement for the community; to develop and implement innovative programs and models for positive change; and to provide opportunities for professional growth.
