MUW Science Enrichment Program presents Backyard Astronomy workshops
COLUMBUS, Miss. -- The Science Enrichment Program at Mississippi University for Women will present a Backyard Astronomy workshop on Friday, Jan. 14.
David Teske of Rainwater Observatory will lead the session, which will be held at the Plymouth Bluff Center located on Old West Point Road in Columbus. Teske will provide an overview of stargazing, constellation and moon observation concepts. Participants are encouraged to bring telescopes, binoculars and chairs to view the stars from the parking lot.
The program will begin at 7 p.m. in the auditorium.
“If it's cold, we'll have a fire going. Cold nights offer some of the best viewing because there is less moisture in the air to obscure the view,” said Kenny Langley, project coordinator. “It will be a rain or shine event because our instructor will have some fun, hands-on activities for participants if we cannot observe outdoors.”
Registration is not required, and all sessions are free and open to the public. Cookies and hot chocolate will be served.
The final workshop for the semester will be held on Friday, March 25.
