COLUMBUS, Miss. –
Mississippi University for Women’s Staff Council and
Hearin Leadership Program will deliver 50 baskets to
needy families in Columbus on Monday, Nov. 22.
Staff Council
President Sarah E. Sumners said organizations still
have time to sponsor a basket.
"This is a joint
effort between the Hearin Leadership Program and the
Staff Council to provide Thanksgiving baskets to
needy families here in Columbus," Sumners said.
Each laundry
basket will be filled with the following items:
Thanksgiving card, $10
Wal-Mart card,
variety of fresh fruit, onions, bag of baking
potatoes and sweet potatoes, macaroni and cheese,
rice, canned pineapples, peaches, mixed fruit,
cranberry sauce, yams, peas, whole kernel corn,
mixed veggies, cut green beans, pumpkin, tomato
sauce, 5 1b. bag of sugar, vegetable oil, corn bread
mix, cake mix and frosting.
"To make it an
easy task for your organization, each of you can
bring one item and fill a whole laundry basket with
food and other items that will bring happiness to a
family in need this Thanksgiving," Sumners added.
"In addition, once our office has received your
information, we will send you a completed list of
the items to be donated in your basket."
The baskets will
be assembled by campus organizations and offices on
Friday, Nov. 19 in Cochran Hall, third floor.
