MUW’s Meaders police chief and actor in same week

COLUMBUS, Miss. - When he is not serving as Mississippi University for Women’s top cop, MUW Police Chief Kennedy Meaders can be found enjoying his favorite pastime, acting.

Along with Cinema City Pictures, Meaders spent the weekend of Oct. 9 at the Lowndes County Courthouse shooting a scene from “The Governor’s Daughter,” in which he plays defense attorney Vincent Morehouse. "The Governor's Daughter" is the fictional account of a robbery that takes place in an Atlanta nightclub. During the crime, the governor of Georgia's two daughters are kidnapped.

“I got into acting when I was approached by Gary Colom about being in a movie he was making. He was looking for a guy to play a police officer. I auditioned for the part and was cast as Officer Marion in ‘The Flight of Calvin Waters.’ I had never auditioned or had any interest in acting, but while filming this movie, I enrolled in acting lessons at MUW. What I enjoy about acting is how I can step into a role and become someone different than who I am. I do not want to be typecast as just a police officer, I like playing different roles,” said Meaders.

Most of the movie was filmed in Atlanta. It is expected to be released in the spring of 2011.

Meaders, who has been in law enforcement nearly 20 years, has been the police chief at MUW for over a year.

Other actors starring in the movie are Donna Biscoe, whose extensive movie credits include a role in Tyler Perry's, "Daddy's Little Girls,” and leading-man, Glenn Plummer, another Hollywood veteran.
