Elementary students to experience college life at MUW

COLUMBUS, Miss. -- Sale International Studies Magnet School students will experience campus life during Kids ‘N College, an enrichment program sponsored by Sale and the College of Education and Human Sciences at Mississippi University for Women Oct. 13-15.

Forty-one students, first through fifth grade, will participate in this year’s program from 9 a.m. to noon. The College of Education and Human Sciences provides activities to students at Sale as part of the school's extended year program. They will participate in various enrichment events hosted on campus, and led by university elementary education majors completing their block semester prior to their teacher internships.

In addition, students from MUW will be at Sale Elementary working with children who need remediation.

Sale International Studies Magnet School principal Nancy Bragg said, “The students will work on the Mississippi Frameworks’ curriculum objectives through the enrichment activities. Our goal is for the students to show growth and development and also further their curriculum objectives.”

Students from Sale will return to campus Feb. 7-11 and April 11-15. Each week will have a different focus for the students and involve different people on campus.

Dr. Sue Jolly-Smith, interim dean of the College of Education and Human Sciences, said “From our standpoint, this is a wonderful mutually beneficial program because our undergraduate students get a chance to plan lessons, interact with students and plan creative activities that are aligned with the Mississippi Frameworks curriculum.”
