MUW supports Empty Bowls event
COLUMBUS, Miss. – Mississippi University for Women faculty, staff and students will do their part to help fight hunger as part of the Empty Bowls event scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 6.
“We are working hard to make more than 1,000 bowls for this year’s event,” said Alisa “Al” Holen, MUW assistant professor of art and ceramics.
A bowl making day for students will be held Wednesday, Sept. 29 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Art and Design Building, Room 100. Faculty and staff will make bowls on Thursday, Sept. 30 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Clay arts students will be on hand to help with either hand-building or wheel throwing, Holen said.
The Saturday, Nov. 6 event will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the front lawn of the shops at Brickerton on Military Road.
“Buy a bowl or 10, enjoy free music and delicious soup donated by Zachary’s Restaurant and Trinity Café,” Holen said.
All proceeds for the Empty Bowls event benefit Loaves and Fishes in Columbus and Global Connections, a humanitarian organization in Africa.
