MUW Office of Admissions starts ‘Class of 2014’ Facebook page

COLUMBUS, Miss. -- Times are always changing, and with the rapid growth of social media, so are the ways high school seniors are preparing for their first year of college. With a helpful suggestion from incoming freshman, Carly Bean, the Office of Admissions has decided to start the “MUW Class of 2014” Facebook page.

Bean of West Point, recently contacted Amanda Shelton in the Office of Admissions about starting a Facebook page after hearing from her friend, who is also going to college in the fall, that a page had been started at her school.

“My friend mentioned that the college had an "Incoming Freshman" group on Facebook. She has met so many future classmates and friends, and I wanted to do the same. This will be such a new experience for all of us, so I thought that it would be nice to meet people before we are officially on campus,” Bean said.

Shelton, also an alumna, and the rest of the admissions staff agreed that this would be a great way for students to connect before they actually came to MUW.

“I thought it was a great idea, because knowing when I came to MUW, although I am from Columbus, made me a tad bit scared not knowing anything or what I was suppose to do.” said Shelton.

Discussions such as “What is your major?” and “Where are you from?” have been posted by Shelton and have gotten a great response. Four students have already found roommates through the page.
