Move-In Day kicks off MUW Welcome Week festivities
COLUMBUS, Miss. – Faculty and staff at Mississippi University for Women will lend a helping hand to students moving into the residence halls on Sunday, Aug. 15 starting at noon. The public also is invited to participate.
“The department of community living has set aside this time for our students to come to campus to move into their new home. There will be numerous faculty, staff and students to assist families during the day,” said Sirena Parker, director of community living. “This day is very special to our students because it is a start of a new chapter in their life. By having many volunteers on site during the day, family members are able to get all questions answered and the help they need to make this a successful start of their child’s college career.”
According to Parker, students will be greeted by MUW staff as they enter the front gate. Routes have been designed to reduce traffic bottlenecks and to speed up the process. Directional signs and instructions will be provided by MUW police and Welcome Week staff members.
Move-In Day will kick off Welcome Week activities. Other activities scheduled include a block party, video dance party, Freshman Serenade, late night breakfast, Social Club/Greek Life Ice Cream Social, poster sale, Karaoke and mud volleyball/aquafest.
Fall registration will be held Tuesday, Aug. 17 and day and evening classes will begin Wednesday, Aug. 18.
Individuals or groups interested in assisting with Move In Day should contact Parker at (662) 329-7127 or email sparker@ss.muw.edu.
