Summer Institutes for teachers to be hosted at MUW
COLUMBUS, Miss. – Mississippi University for Women will be hosting the CHAMPS (Creating High Achievement in Mathematics and Problem Solving) Project Summer Institutes for teachers July 12-23.
The goal of the CHAMPS Project is to improve teacher quality in high-needs districts located in Northeast Mississippi by providing a comprehensive program of professional development. These targeted districts are Aberdeen, Amory, Chickasaw County, Choctaw County, Columbus, Kemper County, Lowndes County, Monroe County, Noxubee County, Okolona, Oktibbeha County, Philadelphia, Starkville, Tupelo and Webster County.
Up to 50 teachers of mathematics in grades fourth through eighth are selected to participate in the project. They receive several benefits such as continuing education units, instructional materials and a stipend for each day of training, membership expenses and meals covered for the Mississippi Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematic conference.
The CHAMPS Project is funded through a Mississippi Department of Education Mathematics and Science Partnership grant.
