MUW professor to appear on `Jeopardy’

COLUMBUS, Miss. – Mississippi University for Women English professor, Dr. Nora Corrigan, will appear on the game show, “Jeopardy,” set to air on ABC on Tuesday, July 27.

Originally from Reston, Va., Corrigan holds multiple degrees in English from The College of William & Mary and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She spent a year as a visiting assistant professor at McKendree University in Illinois before starting at MUW in August 2008. She currently teaches Shakespeare, English Literature I and II and composition.

Corrigan has always liked playing trivia. “Back in grad school, my friends and I used to have epic all-night games of Trivial Pursuit, and I’ve really missed that since I moved here, so I decided to take the online `Jeopardy’ test just for fun. I was very surprised that I actually ended up on the show,” she said.

The screening process to be on the show had two stages. The first part was an online quiz of 50 questions with a strict time limit. After Corrigan passed the quiz, a “Jeopardy” staff member contacted her to travel to one of the cities where they conducted an in-person audition. The audition consisted of a written test, a practice game with buzzers and some practice interviews.

Corrigan was called by “Jeopardy” producers in February 2010 and flew to Los Angeles for the taping of the show in March.
