Hatton to serve as MUW associate vice president for academic affairs

COLUMBUS, Miss. – Dr. Martin L. Hatton, who has served as chair of Mississippi University for Women’s Department of Communication since 2005, has been named interim associate vice president for academic affairs. He will assume this role at the beginning of July.

Hatton will be replacing Dr. Eric Daffron, who recently accepted the vice provost for curriculum and assessment position at Ramapo College of New Jersey. Hatton’s primary responsibilities will include monitoring and coordinating the planning and evaluation of institutional effectiveness activities, the general education program, on-line offerings and academic advising.

“I am honored to take on these responsibilities. I’ve worked closely with the previous provosts and associate vice president for academic affairs, and I’m looking forward to working with Dr. (Hal) Jenkins and the entire MUW community in this new role,” he said.

Hatton most recently led the development of a 2+2 online degree offering in communication for this current 2009-2010 academic year.

In 2004, he was named MUW’s Faculty Member of the Year and received special recognition as Mentor of the Year by the Hearin Leadership Scholars Program in 2006.

Hatton earned his M.A. in speech communication and Ph.D. in mass communication from The University of Alabama. He graduated from MUW in 1988 with a B.S. in broadcasting.

Hatton has taught at MUW since 1992.
