MUW Homecoming pageant set for April 14
COLUMBUS, Miss.− The Student Programming Board (SPB) at Mississippi University for Women will host a pageant titled Crowning Glory as part of Homecoming festivities on April 14 at 7 p.m. in Rent Auditorium, Whitfield Hall.
Contestants will compete for the title of king, queen, prince and princess. This new tradition for MUW was the idea of Symone Bounds, director of the SPB.
“I wanted to do something different and give the students more opportunity to participate in homecoming. Besides, we are a school that makes its own traditions,” Bounds said.
All students could apply to be on the homecoming court, but only eight were chosen by SPB. The contestants campaigned to encourage students to vote for them and their votes will count as 50 percent of the contestants’ final score. The remaining 50 percent will come from the judges. MUW President Claudia A. Limbert will crown the winners.
Contestants are Menuka Ban, a freshman political science and mathematics major; Abbey Rish, sophomore communication major, film minor; Tekita Bankhead, junior BSN nursing major; Hayley Erwin, senior psychology major; Ciearra Jackson, senior biology major; Nicolas Wright, freshman pre-nursing major; Corbett Estes, sophomore communications major, music minor; and Jermaine Watson, freshman culinary arts major, entrepreneurship minor.
There will be special entertainment by MUW’s Elite Modeling Squad. The event is free and open to the public. For more information about the pageant, call Bounds at (662) 329-7416.
