Dance for Haiti at MUW

COLUMBUS, Miss.—Mississippi University for Women’s offices of campus recreation and community service and the Wesley Foundation are supporting Stop Hunger Now by hosting Dance for Haiti on Friday, Feb. 19, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Stark Recreation Center.

Activities will include a Zumba-thon, a racquetball tournament and Kid Zone. There is a $2 minimum donation fee required for the Zumba-thon and racquetball tournament and a $1 donation for the Kid Zone. The Zumba-thon will be held in the Emma Ody Pohl Building from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Registration for the racquetball tournament will begin at 5 p.m. and end at 5:30 p.m.

“The Express,” the Ernie Davis movie, will play at 7:30 p.m.
All proceeds will go to Stop Hunger Now, an international hunger relief agency. Stop Hunger Now created its meal packaging program in 2005. Each meal cost 25 cents and can last up to five years. The meals will be shipped to Haiti.

Sally Pearson, an instructor in the College of Nursing and Speech-Language Pathology, has brought this program to MUW to raise enough money to package 20,000 meals in the near future.
