COLUMBUS, Miss. -- The Department of Health and Kinesiology at Mississippi University for Women will host its annual community health fair on Wednesday, Feb. 24. This event will be held in the Emma Ody Pohl Building from 9 a.m. to noon.
More than 30 wellness and health promotion industry representatives from all over North Mississippi will be present to distribute information on cancer prevention, nutrition, fitness and much more.
The College of Nursing and Speech-Language Pathology will check blood pressure, height, weight, body mass index and perform venipuncture procedures. The Lions Club will check for glaucoma and collect used eye glasses and sunglasses. The North Mississippi Medical Center will conduct bone density scans, total cholesterol and blood sugar for $8. NMMC also will do a prostate-specific antigen test for $20 for men at least 45 years old.
All participants should wear comfortable clothing. For those who plan to get screened for total cholesterol and blood glucose, fasting after midnight, the day before, is required.
Door prizes will be given away from contributors such as Eden Spa, Girl Scouts of America and Arbonne.
