Four MUW students to be remembered at candlelight vigil
COLUMBUS, Miss. – A candlelight vigil will be held in memory of Mississippi University for Women students Jamelia Brown, Jaslynn McGee, Catherine Ann Muse and Alondan “Angel” Turner tomorrow at 7 p.m. in Pope Banquet Room.
The Rev. Tony Montgomery, pastor of Missionary Union Baptist Church, will be the guest speaker for the service, which will honor the students whose lives were claimed in a motel fire that occurred Saturday night in Hoover, Ala.
Phillip Cockrell, director of student life at MUW, said, “This is an opportunity for the campus community to come together as one to honor these students. We want to offer our students hope and support during this very difficult time.”
The MUW freshmen, all residents of Kincannon Hall, were active on campus.
Brown, who was from Grenada, was a pledge of the Troubadour social club and a W-Rep. She was majoring in pre-nursing BSN.
McGee, who was from Corinth, also was majoring in pre-nursing BSN.
Cousins Muse and Turner were from Cordova, Ala. Muse was majoring in
theater and a pledge of the Highlander social club. Turner was majoring in accounting and worked in MUW’s on-campus daycare center.
