MUW to host Fit Night 2010
COLUMBUS, Miss. – The campus recreation office and departments of health and kinesiology and nursing at Mississippi University for Women will host Fit Night 2010 on Jan. 19 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Stark Recreation Center.
Community members are invited to participate in fitness class demonstrations and share their exercise and diet questions with fitness and nutrition experts. Fit Night 2010 also kicks off a free, 12-week wellness program called Healthy U, which will assist participants in meeting their health objectives for 2010.
Participants in Fit Night 2010 will have the opportunity to participate if fitness class demonstrations including Zumba, Pilates, Dynamic Duo and yoga and will have a first look at MUW's cycling cave, where cycling classes will be held. The cycling cave is a new addition to the recreation fitness program. A free trial week will be offered. Jan. 25-30. On Feb. 1, there will be a fee to take a cycling class. Prices are $2 for students, faculty, staff and members and $7 for non-members. To reserve a bike, call or visit the front desk at the Stark Recreation Center.
Additionally, health experts from a variety of disciplines will be on hand to answer questions:
- Dr. Mark Bean will provide tips on getting the most out of a walking routine, an easy and convenient form of physical activity.
- Dr. Emily Louise will be available to answer questions related to exercise and fitness.
- Palina Clark, RD, will be there to answer nutrition questions.
- Dr. Irene Pintado will provide information about a free 12-week wellness program.
All participants will be eligible to win door prizes from local stores and restaurants. A grand prize winner will receive five free personal training sessions courtesy of campus recreation. Fit Night participants also will receive a coupon that will be good for one month free membership upon renewal or purchase of a membership at the Stark Recreation Center.
