Move-In Day kicks off MUW Welcome Week festivities
COLUMBUS, Miss. – The faculty and staff at Mississippi University for Women will lend a helping hand to the students moving into the residence halls on Saturday, Aug. 8 starting at noon.
“We will have many volunteers that day to assist students and parents with their belongings,” said Sirena Parker, director of community living. “Move-In day is an exciting day especially for our freshmen students.”
The MUW tradition helps students and their parents transition into college life by easing stress and building excitement.
“We want this to be a pleasant experience for all students and their family members,” Parker added.
Move-In Day will kick off Welcome Week activities. Other activities scheduled include a movie on the lawn, block party, poster sale, karaoke, a Traditions 101 program and Freshman Serenade. A mandatory community service activity also is scheduled for the entire freshman class.
Natalie Aranda, community director and student programming board advisor, said, “These events and activities are put on in order to both welcome back returning students and to give new students plenty of opportunities to learn more about their university and what they can be involved in as well as a chance to meet and make connections with fellow classmates.”
New Welcome Week activities include Making Your Mark, Open House Party and X Marks the Spot, an event hosted by the campus recreation center as a fun way for new students to learn their way around campus.
“We hope some of these new activities like Making Your Mark will turn into traditions,” Aranda added.
Registration will be held Tuesday, Aug. 11 and day and evening classes will begin Wednesday, Aug. 12. For more information, contact the Office of Admissions at (662) 329-7106.
