Hilliard named post secondary Educator of the Year at Link banquet

COLUMBUS, Miss. - Dr. Bryan Hilliard, associate professor of philosophy at Mississippi University for Women, was named the 2009 post secondary Educator of the Year at the Columbus-Lowndes Development Link’s annual Excellence in Education Awards Banquet.

Each year, the Link sponsors the banquet to honor outstanding seniors who attend city, county and private schools and students who are home schooled. Elementary, middle school, high school and post secondary educators were also recognized. The banquet was recently held at the Columbus Country Club.

Hilliard, past Faculty Member of the Year recipient at MUW, graduated from Elon University with a bachelor of arts in history and philosophy before attending the University of Tennessee where he earned his master of arts in philosophy and medical ethics as well as a doctorate in philosophy.

He specializes in medical ethics and health law and policy, which
tackles issues such as informed consent, doctor-patient relationships
and provision of adequate pain control.

MUW also was well represented in the other categories.

Teacher of the year recipients were Rosalyn Hodge (’94) at
Stokes-Beard Elementary for grades kindergarten through fifth, Mary
Pippins Moore (’77) at S.D. Lee Middle School for grades sixth through eighth and Janice Anderson (’65) at Heritage Academy for grades ninth through 12th.

Dr. Hal Jenkins, dean of the College of Education and Human Sciences, said, “We are certainly proud of our graduates and want everyone to know what an outstanding program we have in teacher education.”
