First finalist for MUW provost/VPAA position to visit campus next week

COLUMBUS, Miss. – Three finalists for the provost and vice president for academic affairs position at Mississippi University for Women will visit campus beginning next week.

Dr. Joyce Hunt, who is leading the search committee said, “It is a great opportunity for MUW to have such outstanding candidates to interview for this leadership role.”

Names and positions of the candidates and their interview dates are:

Dr. Veronica Makowsky (May 26-27)
Vice provost for undergraduate education and regional campus
Administration
Professor of English and women’s studies
University of Connecticut in Storrs

Dr. Ronald Cromwell (June1-2)
Senior vice president for academic affairs
Dean of faculty
Professor of education
MountAloysius College in Cresson, Pa.

Dr. Ronald Hy (June 11-12)
Dean, College of Arts and Sciences
Professor of political science
Texas A&M University in Kingsville

“The search committee has done an incredible job in a very short period of time. They are a very professional group of campus leaders who have worked diligently during a very hectic time of the year, the end of spring semester,” Hunt said. “This group is conducting the search without any type of assistance from an external consulting group like was done in the previous search.”

She added as with all MUW searches, the members of the committee have signed a confidentiality statement which means they must hold in highest confidence all information regarding the search. Members are not at liberty to disclose anything about the search process, its results, or the highly confidential personnel information that has been discussed.

The new provost and vice president for academic affairs is expected to be in place as soon as possible and replace Dr. Sandra Jordan, who has accepted a position at Georgia College & State University in Milledgeville.
