Smith reads short story at Emerson College

COLUMBUS, Miss. - Dr. Michael F. Smith, assistant professor of English at MUW, read his short story "Chasing Rabbits" at Emerson College in Boston, Mass., on Thursday.

His reading was part of the launch party for the new issue of the Emerson Review, which includes fiction, poetry and essays from writers from across the country. In addition to being included in the new issue of the review, "Chasing Rabbits" was the winner of the 2008 Brick Streets Press Short Story Award.

Smith has published short fiction in more than a dozen literary journals and reviews and he has also previously been awarded the Transatlantic Review Award for Fiction and the Alabama Arts Council Fellowship Award for Literature.

He has taught creative writing at MUW since the fall of 2007.
