MUW student named Mississippi Miss Phi Beta Sigma 2009

COLUMBUS, Miss. – Keidria White, Mississippi University for Women’s Miss Phi Beta Sigma, was recently named Mississippi’s Miss Phi Beta Sigma for 2009. She competed against seven other contestants on Feb. 7, in the Rent Auditorium, Whitfield Hall.

“I really wanted to get more involved with the university before my senior year and the scholarship awards will be helpful,” said White. “I’m proud of my university and this is a great way for me to show it.”

White, a native of Grenada, is a junior paralegal studies major and a member of the Coretta Social Club. In her first pageant experience, White said she entered for multiple reasons.

“I would encourage anyone to try anything once,” said White. “You never know what opportunities might come your way.”

White will go on to compete in the Miss Phi Beta Sigma regional competition in Florida, April 16-19. She will compete in interview, evening gown, talent, casual wear and swimsuit in her quest for the regional title.

The Miss Phi Beta Sigma Scholarship Pageant was founded in 1973, and celebrates the accomplishments of young collegiate women. The regional pageant is an official preliminary to the National Miss Phi Beta Sigma Scholarship Pageant, which will be held in New Orleans, July 6-12.
