MUW to host College Aspirations workshop
COLUMBUS, Miss. - Mississippi University for Women will host its second annual College Aspirations workshop on Feb. 13, at 8:30 a.m. in Cochran Hall on the MUW campus.
According to Dr. Thomas Velek, director fo the Ina. E. Gordy Honors College, the workshop is designed to introduce high school juniors to the college application process. The workshop is presented by the Honors College and MUW Office of Admissions.
"We want participants to finish this workshop with a head start on how to get into college and perform well for scholarships," said Velek.
In addition to a session on the importance of a college education, participants will learn how to write an effective college entrance essay and how to perform well in college interviews. The workshop will feature sessions led by Dr. Marty Hatton of MUW, Emma Richardson of the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science and Dr. Velek. All participants are invited to a lunch session featuring Dr. Sandra Jordon, provost and vice president for academic affairs at MUW.
Participants must be high school juniors with an ACT of 24 or higher.
