Ina E. Gordy Honors College announces Forum Series line up

COUMBUS, Miss. – The Ina E. Gordy Honors College at Mississippi University for Women has released its schedule of guests for the 2009 Honors College Forum Series. The series is free and open to the public.

The spring schedule begins Jan. 29 and lasts through April 30. The series will feature speakers Chuck Yarborough, Mark Zupan, Annette Trefzer, Robert Pauly Jr., Brian Anderson and Deborah Miranda, as well as presentations of undergraduate research.

The first lecture will be held Jan. 29 at 6 p.m. in the Nissan Auditorium in Parkinson Hall on the MUW campus. The guest speaker will be Chuck Yarborough, Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science teacher and recently named Mississippi History Teacher of the Year. The title of his presentation is "Tales from the Crypt: Merging Scholarship and Community Service".

“What we want to do is introduce students and the community to a wide range of ideas,” said Honors College Director Thomas Velek. “We’re offering everything from a history instructor to a forum on Iraq, things that the audience may not encounter in the otherwise.”

The Forum Series is a presentation of the Ina E. Gordy Honors College and is sponsored by the Gordy endowment. The Honors College promotes the education and scholarship of honors students by offering an academically advanced and intellectually stimulating curriculum and appropriate co-curricular activities in a personalized environment.
