Honorary art society auction to aid local schools
COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Mississippi University for Women Rho chapter of Kappa Pi International Honorary Art Fraternity will host its fourth annual Art in Autumn Auction Saturday, Nov. 8 in Shattuck Hall Gallery.
Silent auction bidding begins at 5 p.m. and the live auction starts at 7 p.m. Artwork has been donated by nationally recognized folk artist Elayne Goodman as well as MUW professors, staff, alumni and friends Larry Feeney, Shawn dickey, Alex Stelioes-Wills, Robert Gibson, Alisa Holen, Melody Vydas, Sherry Durkin, Rich Wright, Adele Elliot and Sharon Foster.
The event is part of the group’s community outreach program, “Drawing Out Success,” which partners the chapter with area high schools to foster an interest in visual arts. The funds raised by the auction last year were used to purchase art supplies and equipment for the art program at New Hope High School. On Oct. 17, Kappa Pi completed its partnership with New Hope by hosting on-campus workshops and demonstrations for New Hope High School students in a day-long event. This year’s auction will benefit West Lowndes High School and their plans to convert a classroom into a student art gallery.
The Rho Chapter of Kappa Pi is an honorary society that recognizes high achievement in the field of art.
