MUW police chief accepts position at Ole Miss
COLUMBUS, Miss. – Calvin Sellers, chief of police at
Mississippi
University for Women, has accepted the chief of
police position at The
University of Mississippi. His start date is July 7.
Sellers, who joined MUW in August 2000, is returning
to Ole Miss where
he was captain of patrol services. He began working
with Ole Miss in
1986 as an officer and worked his way up through the
ranks.
“I have enjoyed my time at MUW. I appreciate the
opportunity to have
worked with the fine folks here. Thanks for the
support, guidance and
encouragement you have provided me during the last
eighth years. Even
though I will miss you all, I am looking forward to
the challenge of the
new job,” Sellers said in a campus-wide email.
To ensure a smooth transition, MUW President Claudia
A. Limbert today
appointed Lamar Peacock as interim chief of police.
Peacock is in his
second stint at MUW and brings significant law
enforcement experience to
this position.
Limbert said, “I am deeply sorry that Chief Sellers
is leaving MUW.
He has provided great service to the university. We
are, however,
pleased that he has been a part of the MUW family.”
Perry Sansing, supervising President’s Cabinet
member for the MUW
Police Department, added, “Calvin has served MUW
with distinction and
dedication. The MUW Police Department is better
because of his
leadership. We will miss him and wish him the best
at Ole Miss.”
The MUW Police Department is charged with
maintaining a safe and secure campus for students,
faculty, staff and visitors.
