MUW Senior Art Exhibition reception Friday


COLUMBUS, Miss. – Eight graduating seniors are currently exhibiting work in the Fine Arts Gallery at Mississippi University for Women. The exhibition began on April 22 and will run through May 12.

The opening reception is set for Friday, May 9 and will begin at 7 p.m. A special deejay set by The Hooded Deer will follow the reception at 8:30 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.

The exhibition will include work from the following:

Martin Arnold, a native of Michigan, will receive a bachelor of fine arts in teacher certification;

Lynsey D. Bailey, from New Albany, will receive a bachelor of fine arts with an emphasis in graphic design;

Hayley Gilmore, a Columbus native, will receive a bachelor of fine arts degree with an emphasis in graphic design;

Carmen Green, a resident of Columbus, will receive a bachelor of fine arts with an emphasis in interior design;

Monique Lehmann, a resident of Atlanta, Ga., and a native of South Africa, will receive a bachelor of fine arts degree with an emphasis in graphic design;

Molly McMillen, from Mantachie, will receive a bachelor of fine arts degree with an emphasis in Interior Design;

Calli Turner, a native of Siloam Springs, Ark., will receive a bachelor of fine arts degree with an emphasis in photography;

Nathan Walker, from Columbus, will receive a bachelor of fine arts degree with an emphasis in graphic design.

“For us art majors, the senior exhibition is the crowning point of our academic careers at MUW,” said Gilmore. “It’s a real honor to be showcasing my work alongside my peers, and I hope the community will take pride in the work being produced by The W as well.”

Each student is participating in the exhibition as a requirement to receive their degree. The participating seniors accumulate what they believe are their best works for display. Some works are for sale.

The MUW Fine Arts Gallery is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and is located in Shattuck Hall on the Northeast corner of the MUW campus near Poindexter Hall. For more information, call 329-7341 or 329-7291 or e-mail aswills@muw.edu.
