MUW’s Homecoming celebration set for April 17-20


COLUMBUS, Miss. - Mississippi University for Women will host various
activities for its 40th Homecoming celebration scheduled for April
17-20.

"We are extremely excited about Homecoming 2008,” said Becky Tate
Cade, interim director of alumni relations. “All MUW alumni are
encouraged to register to attend and participate in this year's special
activities. The Homecoming activities were planned using input from
numerous MUW alumni, students and employees.”

Activities will kick off on Thursday with a reception and dinner with
Master Chef Jose Gutierrez at 6:30 p.m. in Pope Banquet Room.

Friday will begin with registration from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Whitfield
Hall, Rent Auditorium. At 11:30 a.m. the Golden Girls luncheon will be
held to honor the Class of 1958. That afternoon, there will be campus
tours as well as open houses hosted by the academic colleges on campus.
The second annual Blues & Barbeque will be held from 5:30 p.m. until
7:30 p.m. In addition to great music and food, campus organizations will
have booths to share information about their latest events and
achievements.

Saturday’s events will include the Long Blue Line March at 10:15 a.m.
Convocation will follow in Rent Auditorium. An alumni picnic will be
held at Bryan Gazebo from noon to 1:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon will be
filled with social club and organizational reunions. A new addition to
the schedule for this year will be the reunions for all fraternities and
sororities. The organizational reunions will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday
night will end with the Young and Young at Heart Alumni Party.

Homecoming will end on Sunday with a continental breakfast and a
memorial service. Breakfast will begin at 8 a.m. in Cochran Hall
Ballroom. Following the breakfast, a memorial service honoring alumni,
faculty and staff who have passed away between April 2007 and April 2008
will be held in Carrier Chapel. The service will begin at 9:30 a.m.

Cade said, “We hope not only all alumni, but also their family and
friends, including those friends in Columbus and the surrounding
communities will participate in many of this year's functions.”
