MUW professor to talk to Tupelo High School about
militant Islam
COLUMBUS, Miss. - Mississippi University for Women
professor of political science Dr. Brian Anderson
will talk to an assembly at Tupelo High School about
“Understanding Osama bin Laden.”
The program will be held Friday and is a part of
MUW’s history and political science speakers’
bureau. This outreach program seeks to bring MUW
faculty in history and political science to high
school classrooms and auditoriums around the state,
with lectures ranging from Dr. Anderson’s talk to
“Do I want to do this for four more years? Why go to
a four-year college” to “The U.S. Constitution: a
Medieval Document?”
“The speakers’ bureau is an excellent opportunity to
offer our expertise in history and government to
high schools in Mississippi. We’ve been giving talks
to small classes and high school assemblies. And
we’ve always met an enthusiastic reception,” said
Dr. Michael Burger, chair of the Department of
History, Political Science, Geography and Paralegal
Studies.
The program has stimulated great interest, and
through it MUW faculty have spoken to students from
Greenville, Picayune, Ridgeland, Starkville and now
Tupelo. Dr. Anderson’s talk will bring the total
number of students this program has reached to about
540 in the 2007-08 academic year.
High schools interested in arranging a visit should
contact Dr. Burger at (662) 329-7386 or email
