MUW faculty member has noteworthy accomplishments
COLUMBUS, Miss. - Dr. Kendall Dunkelberg, a
professor in the Department of Languages,
Literature, and Philosophy and director of creative
writing at Mississippi University for Women,
recently had his
translation of “Tail of the Magpie” by Stefan
Hertmans included in
the publication of an upcoming anthology. In
addition, he accepted the
invitation to serve as vice president of the
Southern Literary Festival
for 2009.
Dunkelberg's translation will appear in Tales from
the Lowlands, an
anthology of Dutch fiction published by the Dirk
Hertog Foundation in
Amsterdam. The anthology is being published to
commemorate the 20th
anniversary of Dutch participation in the Adelaide
Writers Week in Adelaide, Australia.
The translation of the story originally appeared in
The Literary Review and has been read at the U. S.
Library of Congress by the author.
Dunkelberg has also accepted the invitation to serve
as vice president of the Southern Literary Festival
in 2009 and president in 2010. As vice president, he
will coordinate the efforts of the department to
manage the festival's student writing contest next
year and host the festival in 2010.
The Southern Literary Festival was first held in
1937 at Blue Mountain College. MUW has a long
history with the organization and was one of the
charter members when the association's constitution
was signed in 1939.
Past presidents from MUW include Dr. Ralph Hitt and
Dr. Thomas Richardson.
