MUW College of Business hosts event to help students
prepare for
college
COLUMBUS, Miss- The College of Business at
Mississippi University for
Women will host a workshop titled “Your First Year
of College” on Friday, Feb. 22 from 8:45 a.m. to 1
p.m. The event is free and open to all interested
high school juniors and seniors and community
college transfers.
“Your First Year of College” is a series of sessions
designed to prepare first-time students for the
challenges of the first year of college. The
different sessions will address issues such as
building good financial credit, preparing and
sticking to a budget, developing an awareness of
legal issues and the growing world of online
education.
Dr. Joyce Hunt, interim dean of the College of
Business, said about the
upcoming sessions, “We are excited to be hosting
this event that is designed to assist students in
navigating a successful transition to college life.
Today's students as young adults are assuming more
and more responsibility for themselves. As college
students, they are given a tremendous amount of
freedom to make their own choices. Because many of
these decisions have long-term consequences, the MUW
College of Business wants to provide future college
students with a solid foundation for
making good decisions regarding their education and
their personal lives.”
High school students, community college transfer
students, undeclared majors, counselors and teachers
are encouraged to attend. Hunt said, “We are looking
forward to an exciting conference for our next
generation of college leaders.”
