By Jill D. O’Bryant
Mississippi University for Women graduate George O.
Michael Rush was recently hired as a Department of
Defense Keystone intern with the Defense Contract
Management Agency in New Orleans, a contractor for
NASA.
While assigned to the Michond facility in New
Orleans, he is a three year intern as a contract
administrator with DCMA’s NASA Product Operations
Business Team which focuses on obtaining supplies
and services of requisite quality on time and within
budget for NASA.
The DOD Keystone Intern program is a three year
program that focuses on contractual concepts and
operations.
“The pride that I feel working for a national
organization such as the Defense Contract Management
Agency, and NASA being our customer, is
breathtaking,” Rush said. “When watching the news,
it is hard to believe that I am a part of the ever
growing space program. It's a dream come true.
“Further, I think of the many people that invested
in me, such as my grandmother Rosa Aaron and others
- that now I can make them proud.”
The Columbus native enrolled at MUW in September
2002 as a non-traditional student and a veteran
administration/vocational rehabilitation student. He
graduated in December 2004 with a bachelor’s degree
in paralegal studies.
“I feel that The W and fantastic mentors such as,
Dr. Marty Hatton, Dr. Thomas Velek, Ms. Wahnee
Sherman, Mr. David Smith and Mr. Eric Harlan (MUW
faculty and staff members),
gave me the edge that I needed to qualify for this
agency,” he said. “They gave me the support needed
to go the extra mile educationally and in my self
esteem. Age doesn't matter when you have a super
support team.”
