Whitehead presents paper at Interdisciplinary
Conference in Women’s Studies
COLUMBUS, Miss. – Dr. Kim Whitehead, instructor of
English and religious studies in the Department of
Languages, Literature, and Philosophy at Mississippi
University for Women, recently presented the paper
"'The Flowering of Choice': Marge Piercy's Poetics
of the Sacred Body" at the biennial
Interdisciplinary Conference in Women's Studies at
Middle Tennessee State University.
This year's conference theme was "Performing
Gender." Her paper traced the development of an
embodied spirituality in Piercy's poetry, influenced
by her association with the women's and Jewish
Renewal movements of the late 20th century.
Whitehead also has two fiction publications this
year, a short story “Indian Pink” that appeared in
the fall 2006 issue of storySouth and a short story
“The Split” forthcoming in the spring/summer 2007
issue of Terrain.org: A Journal of the Built &
Natural Environments.
