MUW’s Homecoming celebration set for April 20-22
COLUMBUS, Miss. – Mississippi University for Women
will hold its annual Homecoming festivities this
weekend.
Jan Miller, director of alumni relations said, “We
want to make this a very enjoyable time for the
alums to meet up with their friends, share old
memories and see all the wonderful things that are
happening on campus. The weather is going to be good
and we’re going to have a really great time.”
As with previous years, numerous events have been
planned for returning alumni, starting with
registration in Whitfield Hall at 9 a.m. on Friday.
After that, the class of ’57 will be honored at the
Golden Girls Luncheon in the Pope Banquet Room at
11:30 a.m.
Throughout the remainder of the day, there will be
group campus tours, which will also include a look
at the newly-opened recreation center, a class of
1995 bench dedication and a reception for the class
of 1957.
All this leads up to the Blues & Barbeque event at
5:30 p.m. on Shattuck Lawn. Hosted by the Student
Programming Board and Beta Kappa Tau Fraternity,
alumni are invited to bring their lawn chairs and
blankets and lounge on the lawn with some relaxing
tunes from area blues and jazz artists.
After finishing off their barbecue sandwiches,
alumni may head over to Annunciation Catholic Church
for a performance of John Rutter’s “Requiem” by the
MUW Chorale at 8 p.m. Limited seating is available
for this event.
On Saturday, early birds can enjoy a breakfast at
the Wesley Foundation from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.
The Long Blue March begins at 10:15 a.m. on front
campus, followed immediately by Convocation in
Whitfield Hall at 10:30. At noon, the Alumni
Achievement Award Luncheon will be held in the Pope
Banquet Room.
A new event this year is the Hearin and SGA Reunion
in Cochran Hall, room 303 at 3 p.m.
Other events for Saturday include an open house at
the Culinary Arts Institute and the Women’s Center
for Entrepreneurship, a reception and exhibition for
graduating senior art students in Shattuck Hall,
reunions for four-year, two-year and inactive social
clubs, a lemonade lounge, a Golden Girls open house
at MUW President Claudia A. Limbert’s home, downtown
tours of Columbus, Columbus’ Own Art Exhibit and
Wine & Cheese Reception, featuring the jewelry of
student Melody Vydas and quilts by Annis Cox, at the
Rosenzweig Art Center, reunion class dinners, a
dinner for the class of ’47, a musical theater
concert in Cromwell Theatre and Young Alumni Party

Sunday concludes the Homecoming festivities with a
