Kappa Pi silent auction to be held April 21
COLUMBUS, Miss. – Mississippi University for Women’s
chapter of Kappa Pi International Honorary Art
Fraternity will host its third annual silent auction
at the Rosenzweig Art Center on Saturday, April 21
at 6 p.m. “Feel the Blues”
serves as the theme for this year’s auction. Patrons
and potential bidders will be allowed to view the
artwork 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Students, faculty, alumni, and community members
have donated original artwork for the auction.
“We’ve had such a variety of artwork donated this
year—even an authenticated Salvador Dali print,”
said Hayley Gilmore, Publicity Officer for the
chapter.
The proceeds from the auction will benefit the
Lowndes County Juvenile Detention Center’s “Arts off
the Paper” program, which uses art to engage at-risk
students. Last year the auction raised $2000 to aid
Mississippi coast artists affected by Hurricane
Katrina.
Numerous community businesses have donated
merchandise and food for the event, including
Hallmark, Beans & Cream, Charles O. Perkins Framing,
the Chalet, Yarns Downtown, and the Grapevine. Other
business donating food include P.J.’s Barbeque,
Zachary’s, Café on Main, Applebee’s, Barnhills,
Popeye’s, and Little Dooey’s.
