MUW Alumni Association Board

COLUMBUS, Miss. – Mississippi University for Women on Monday announced the signing of an affiliation agreement with the new MUW Alumni Association’s Board of Directors, cementing a platform from which to grow and strengthen alumni relations and the university’s progress.

The 12-member interim board was nominated by the MUW Alumni Advisory Committee, chaired by Andrea Overby, class of 1968 and past president of the MUW Alumnae Association. The new interim board will serve for one year.

Renee Nick Flynt, a 1981 graduate of MUW who will serve as president, said, “It’s time to come together. We all love MUW and we have all pledged to support the university and continue the momentum of recent years. We hope to take the association to the next level, offer tangible benefits to alumni and kindle supportive relationships with this wonderful university.”

The Alumni Advisory Committee that named the board was made up entirely of MUW alumni. It was formed to address the working relationship between the school and an affiliated alumni association. The Advisory Committee specifically sought out for inclusion current and past leaders in the MUW Alumnae Association, whose formal affiliation with MUW expires April 2.

Of the 12-member board, six are current or former board members of the MUW Alumnae Association.

Two are past presidents of the MUW Alumnae Association.

Nearly all of the interim board members are or have been members of the Alumnae Association.

All members of the Alumnae Association will automatically qualify as members of the MUW Alumni Association.

“We want to take the strengths of all alumni and focus them on supporting the university,’’ Flynt said. “This is a great opportunity for a fresh start – one that keeps the tradition of an active alumnae association alive and that also combines it with a modern, supportive alumni association.’’

MUW President Dr. Claudia Limbert praised the association’s interim board as both impressive and inclusive, and she expressed her appreciation for quick agreement on an affiliation agreement.

“MUW have the best alumni in the world, and we look forward to working with this outstanding alumni leadership team to connect with alumni around the globe,’’
she said. “I am impressed with the diversity, talent, energy and focus of these alumni. Their commitment to MUW is unquestioned. And the potential is unlimited.”
