Speaker discusses India’s ‘call center phenomena’
COLUMBUS, Miss. – As part of Mississippi University
for Women’s International Series focus on the Indian
Subcontinent, Dr. David Butler, executive director
of the National Association of Call Centers, will
examine the trend toward setting up call centers and
help lines in India.
Butler, who also serves as director of the Call
Center Research Lab at the University of Southern
Mississippi, will present his lecture, “ ‘I’m sorry,
can you please repeat that?’ India and the call
center phenomena,” on Wednesday, Feb. 21 at noon as
part of the Lunchtime Lecture Series. The event will
take place in Painter Hall, room 209. Butler is also
the author of “Bottom-Line Call Center Management:
Creating a Culture of Accountability and Excellent
Customer Service,” as well as 10 other scholarly
articles and book chapters.
The annual International Series at Mississippi
University for Women focuses on a specific region or
country. The series consists of a monthly lunchtime
lecture series, a foreign film series, as well as
special events. This year’s focus on the Indian
Subcontinent includes the countries of Pakistan,
India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Maldives and Sri
Lanka.
Other upcoming events for the International Series
include the film “Born Into Brothels,” a
presentation of the Film Series, on Feb. 20, in the
Southern Women’s Institute at 6 p.m., and a lecture
by the grandson of legendary spiritual leader
Mahatma Gandhi, which will take place on Feb. 22 at
6:30 p.m. in the Nissan Auditorium.
In later months will be the fourth installment of
the Iraq Roundtable Discussion, and the films “Why
We Fight,” “Fire” and “Monsoon Wedding.” The film
series is financially assisted by the Southern
Women’s Institute.
