Professor of history gives presentation to
Historical Society
COLUMBUS, Miss. – Dr. Edwin Combs, visiting
assistant professor of history, gave a presentation
to the Selma-Dallas County Historical Society in
Selma, Ala.
The presentation, “Catesby Jones, the Selma Foundry,
and New Perspectives on Confederate
Industrialization,” focused on the story of the
Selma Naval Gun Foundry and its relationship to
industrialization in the Black Belt during the Civil
War.
Approximately 50 people attended the lecture and
reception.
Combs is currently writing a book on industrial
labor and wartime production at the Selma Foundry.
