Overby announces members of MUW Alumni Advisory
Committee
COLUMBUS, Miss. - Andrea Godwin Overby recently
announced members who will serve on the Alumni
Advisory Committee for Mississippi University for
Women.
The committee, headed by Overby, a 1968 alumna and
past president of the MUW Alumnae Association, will
recommend to the university administration the focus
and structure of the MUW Alumni Association. The
committee was formed earlier this month in an effort
to move forward and strengthen the alumni
association.
Alumni recruited thus far include Dr. Pat Ainsworth,
Dr. Eddie Betcher, Ellen Thompson Black, Becky Cade,
Phillip "Flapp" Cockrell, Cindy Adams Dunbar, Renee
Nick Flynt, Dr. Barbara Garrett, Betty Lou Stuart
Jones, Connie Kossen, Pie Mallory, Tina Morgan and
Jan Walker.
Overby said, "Our committee's objective is to
explore innovative ways for the alumni organization
to effectively reach and involve all alumni. This is
a challenging goal since we have approximately
25,000 alumni living throughout this country and
overseas. They are achieving marvelous
accomplishments in their professions and
communities. We want to know about them, keep in
touch with them and given them creative
opportunities to be of service to MUW."
She added the group will work closely with Alumni
Relations Director Jan Miller, who is a 1979
graduate of MUW.
"Jan has a wealth of knowledge and skills for
assisting organizations such as the alumni
association. We are fortunate to have her in this
role," Overby said.
Miller said she looks forward to working with the
committee.
She said, "Many alumni have contacted me about being
in an association that is more inclusive and gives
them opportunities to serve and provides information
they have not received in past years. We will build
on the positive things from the past and move into
the future with new ideas."
