Small Business Resource Workshop offered at MUW
By Jill D. O’Bryant
COLUMBUS, Miss. -- The Women’s Center for
Entrepreneurship at Mississippi University for Women
will host the Golden Triangle Small Business
Resource Workshop on Thursday, Feb. 8.
This free workshop, which is co-sponsored by the
Women’s Center for Entrepreneurship, NEMS Contract
Procurement Center, Columbus Air Force Base and
Mississippi State University’s Small Business
Development Center, will be held in MUW’s Cochran
Hall from 2-4:30 p.m.
Topics of discussion for the workshop are marketing,
financing, business plan, business management,
market research, start-up, procurement/government
contracting, community and economic development and
resources available to small businesses.
“Many small business owners or those who might be
considering starting a business often struggle
needlessly because of a lack of knowledge about how
much help and assistance is available and geared
specifically to them and their needs,” said Lucy
Betcher, director of the Women’s Center for
Entrepreneurship. “This workshop will educate them
as to the extensive number of agencies and programs
which are here to serve them.
Betcher said the attendee will have the opportunity
to learn about which groups provide services,
training, funding, support and guidance that can
contribute to their success. Each speaker will give
a brief overview of their program and how they can
be accessed and then be available so that each
individual participant can ask the questions most
pertinent to their own business needs.
The Women’s Center for Entrepreneurship, which has
the motto “small businesses are in business for
themselves, but not by themselves,” is funded by a
grant from the U.S. Small Business Administration.
