Three MUW students named outstanding student
teachers
COLUMBUS, Miss. – Three students from Mississippi
University for Women were recently named Outstanding
Student Teachers for the fall 2006 semester.
Camille Bobo, elementary education major from West
Point, served as a student teacher with Bettye Swift
and Gail Pollard at South Side Elementary and
Central Schools in West Point.
In Bobo’s nomination, it was stated that she “took
initiative to do several daily routine tasks from
the beginning…She has such enthusiasm for learning
new concepts—that is exactly what a teacher needs to
have.”
Also honored was Amy Clark, elementary education
major from Columbus, who student taught at Cook
Elementary under Debra Jones and at Franklin
Elementary under Jennet Lacey.
Clark’s nomination stated that she “consistently
demonstrated initiative and enthusiasm…She came to
school prepared, has shown superior classroom
management skills and provided a positive, proactive
environment.”
Amy Russell, art education major from Iuka, was also
honored, having student taught at Starkville High
School under Andrew Lark and at New Hope Elementary
under Cathy Bailey.
Russell’s nomination stated she “showed great
self-confidence and knowledge of subjects taught…She
had good classroom management and tried various
techniques in the 31 different classes she taught.”
During the ceremony, Susan Fisackerly, kindergarten
teacher at Annunciation, was awarded the new
Outstanding Cooperating Teacher award. MUW student
Lanie Griffin student taught with Fisackerly.
