Miller to present at conference on disaster relief
COLUMBUS, Miss. – Mississippi University for Women Vice
President for Finance and Administration Nora Miller will
present at the Society for College and University Planning
Southern Regional Conference in Atlanta Oct. 22-24.
The theme for this year’s conference is Disaster Relief: How
do you prepare for the unknown?
Miller will co-present with Daniel R. Kenney, principal and
director/ institutional planning for Sasaki Associates and
Philip Perlin, senior associate for Sasaki Associates Inc.
Their topic will be “Finding
Opportunity in the Aftermath of Disaster: Lessons Learned at
Mississippi University for Women.”
According to Miller, MUW found an “opportunity” to rebuild
the campus in a way that complemented the pre-existing
strategic and enrollment plans.
“It’s very important that institutions rebuild their
facilities in a way that will address current and future
needs and functionalities,” she said.
As MUW approaches its fourth year since the devastating
tornado, the 20-year Facilities Master Plan is being
implemented on campus and much construction is under way.
Sasaki Associates, Inc. worked with MUW on the facilities
master plan in the aftermath of the 2002 tornado.
The presentation will allow the hard work of MUW in
rebuilding its historic campus to be shared with
universities across the South.
Miller said, “Rebuilding requires tremendous investment, and
good stewardship requires that these be sound investments in
the future.”
