MUW
Faculty Exhibition opens Sept. 18
COLUMBUS,
Miss. – The tables will turn for some for art students
who will have an opportunity to critique their
professors’ work at the Mississippi University for Women
Faculty Exhibition set to open Monday, Sept. 18, in the
Fine Arts Gallery.
Artwork by
Shawn Dickey, Robert Gibson, Robert Manning, Thomas
Nawrocki, Alexander Stelioes-Wills, Cindy Buob, David
Carter and Larry Feeney will be featured as part of the
annual exhibit, which will run through Wednesday, Oct.
11. The opening reception will be held Thursday, Sept.
21 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The Faculty
Exhibition is a chance for MUW students to see the
professional work of their professors as well as an
opportunity for the faculty to exhibit a large body of
work.
Gibson, chair
of the Department of Art and Design, said, “Being active
professional artists is a critical part of our teaching
process. It is very important for students to see their
instructors practicing what they preach—being actively
involved in their artwork. That’s the ultimate goal of
any sound education, putting the classroom instruction
into practice.”
Nawrocki
added, “The faculty show gives the students and the
community a chance to see what the faculty produces, and
it gives the students a chance to see what their
teachers have been working on.”
Kevin Voller,
a studio art major, said, “It is good to see what media
and subject matter they (faculty) pursue in their own
time and to see firsthand what the professors preach.”
Sally Evans,
who is majoring in interior design, said, “It gives us a
standard by which to achieve.”
The Fine Arts
Gallery is located in Shattuck Hall, which is on the
Northeast corner of the MUW campus and is across from
Poindexter Hall.
