MUW hires alumna Jan Miller as director of alumni relations
By Jill D. O’Bryant
COLUMBUS, Miss. -- Mississippi University for Women has
hired alumna Jan Miller of Columbus as director of alumni
relations. She will begin Aug. 28.
“This position is so important to our university because the
position serves as a link between the university and one of
the university’s most valued constituents, our alumni,” said
MUW President Claudia A. Limbert. “I feel Ms. Miller will
bring to the position many wonderful connections with the
alumni and the community.”
Currently employed as the manager of Main Street Columbus, a
position she has held since 2000, Miller has more than 19
years experience in various administrative and management
positions.
Prior to working at Main Street, she served as the public
relations/grant writer for the Columbus Municipal School
District and the chapter executive for the American Red
Cross Tenn-Tom Chapter, and she worked for the United Way of
Lowndes County and has worked in sales.
“I am very pleased about Ms. Miller joining MUW,” said Dr.
Gary Bouse, the newly hired vice president for institutional
advancement who also will begin Aug. 28. “She brings a
wealth of talents and abilities, as well as an in-depth
knowledge of the community and region, to her new position
that will allow her to guide our alumni efforts in this era
of change while building on the good work of those who have
served in the position in the past.”
Betty Lou Jones of Meridian, MUW’s national alumni
association president, agrees, “I am very excited about the
new alumni director and look forward to working with her on
many projects to enhance the relationship between the alumni
and the administration, faculty and prospective students. I
am extremely pleased that one of our own has stepped up to
this very important leadership position.”
The 1979 graduate said she looks forward to returning to her
alma mater where she also has served as president of the
Lowndes County Alumni Chapter and public relations
chairperson of the National Alumni Association.
“This is a great opportunity for me to work with the
university that I love,” Miller said. “As an alumna and a
member of this community, MUW has given so much to me, and I
feel very honored to have this chance to give something back
to MUW in a positive way. I look forward to working with my
fellow alumni and the university as we explore new
opportunities and ideas in an effort to take MUW to even
greater successes.”
Miller and her husband, Glenn, reside in Columbus and have
one grown son, Robert.
