Sellers among law enforcement, criminal justice leaders
recognized at Ole Miss
COLUMBUS, Miss. – Mississippi University for Women Police
Chief Calvin Sellers was among more than 30 students and
criminal justice officials from around the state recently
recognized for their professional contributions.
The second annual Legal Studies Banquet was hosted by the
department of Legal Studies at the University of
Mississippi.
David McElreath, chair of legal studies, said. “The event is
a way for the department to celebrate the successes of the
year and to remind us of the history and heritage of the
programs that came together to form the legal studies
department.
“So many of our graduates are in critical positions, not
only across the state but also many Mississippians have
taken lead roles in the legal field and criminal justice
field at federal, state, local and private levels.”
Sellers, who joined MUW in August 2000, came from Ole Miss,
where he was captain of patrol services. He began working
with Ole Miss in 1986 as an officer and worked his way up
the through the ranks.
Before going to work at Ole Miss, Sellers worked for two
years as patrolman for the Water Valley Police Department.
Sellers earned a bachelor’s degree in public administration
from Ole Miss in 1997.
