Velek to serve on Mississippi Historical Society Board of
Directors
COLUMBUS, Miss. -- Dr. Thomas G. Velek, associate professor
of history at Mississippi University for Women, was recently
named to serve on the Mississippi Historical Society Board
of Directors.
“I am certainly honored to be nominated and am happy to
serve. I look forward to being an active member of the Board
of Directors, helping to represent the interests of MUW, but
also promoting the rich history of Mississippi,” Velek said,
noting it has been a long time since MUW has had a
representative on the board.
The Society has annual meetings with distinguished speakers,
tours of historical sites and special events. It also
provides programs and produces books, maps, brochures and
other materials aimed toward the education of the general
public about Mississippi’s history.
