MUW awards Medal of Excellence to Mallory
COLUMBUS, Miss. – Mississippi University for Women awarded
one of the 2006 Medals of Excellence to Lewis F. Mallory
Jr., chairman and chief executive officer of Cadence Bank
Wednesday evening.
Awarded since 1979, the Medal of Excellence is the
university’s highest non-degree honor. Mallory, who has been
with Cadence since 1965, was recognized during a dinner,
which was attended by family, friends and members of the
Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning,
who were on campus for their regular monthly meeting.
Both he and Cadence have been strong supporters of MUW.
Cadence supports scholarships for MUW students from areas
served by the bank. In addition, Cadence has provided
funding for the past two years to allow students from MUW’s
Gordy Honors College to attend the Welty Gala Dinner.
Mallory is married to Pie Mallory, who is a 1965 graduate of
MUW.
The other 2006 Medal of Excellence recipients are Marsha
Barbour, first lady of Mississippi; June Debatin, investment
advisor to the MUW Foundation Board; Martha Jo Mims, alumna
and faculty emerita; and William J. Threadgill, attorney and
member of the MUW Foundation Board.
These recipients will be honored at MUW at the May 5
graduation dinner along with Corinne Pierce ’52 and Leslie
Threadgill ’52, the 2006 honorary doctorate recipients. |
