MUW’s Homecoming set for April 21-23
COLUMBUS, Miss. -- Mississippi University for Women will
host more than 1,000 alumni as part of Homecoming
festivities scheduled for April 21-23.
Patsy McDaniel, director of alumni relations, said, “Our
campus is so beautiful after the newly renovated buildings.
In addition to seeing their old classmates and current
students, alumni like to come back and see the campus.”
More than 60 events are planned with registration beginning
at 9 a.m. in Rent Auditorium at Whitfield Hall.
Events kick off on Friday with the Golden Girls Luncheon for
the class of ’56 at 11:30 a.m. in the Pope Banquet Room.
Some of the alumni invited to attend this luncheon will be
close to or over 100 years old.
The “Celebration of Service” dinner will be held in Thad and
Rose Cochran Hall at 5:30 p.m. This dinner will honor alumna
Gail Ferguson Laws ’97, and a portion of the proceeds will
benefit the Lowndes County Scholarship Fund.
Other events on Friday include a Homecoming Networking
Luncheon, a lunch and boat ride, a campus tour, the alumnae
board meeting, a video presentation of “MUW Through the
Years” and “Magnificent Mozart,” a MUW Chorale concert.
The evening will end with Karaoke with alumna Tina Morgan
’88 at The Sports Page restaurant.
On Saturday, early birds can enjoy breakfast with the Wesley
Foundation at 8 a.m.
Mag Chain will begin at 9 a.m. on front campus, and
afterward alumni will assemble for the Long Blue Line March.
Participants will march with their classmates into Rent
Auditorium.
Convocation will start at 10:30 a.m. in Rent Auditorium. The
ceremony will include a brief business meeting, the Alumni
Achievement Award presentation and recognition of classes
and social clubs.
The rest of Saturday’s events will include Find Your Buddy,
the W Art Student Sidewalk Sale, a luncheon near the Bryan
Gazebo, class pictures, the W Tea with hat and gloves
featuring period music in Puckett House, social club
reunions and the Golden Girls open house.
A photography exhibit will be open from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
downtown at the Rosenzweig Arts Center featuring work by MUW
Public Affairs Assistant Director Chris Jenkins and alumnae
Betty Ruth Hawkins ’75 and Anne Rayner ’86.
Reunion class dinners will start at 6 p.m. and non-reunion
classes and guests will join for dinner in Hogarth
Cafeteria.
The day will conclude with a young alumni bash at Fat
Daddy’s and the theater presentation, “The Foreigner,” both
starting at 8 p.m.
Festivities will end on Sunday after a prayer service in
Carrier Chapel at 9 a.m. and a farewell brunch in Hogarth
Dining Center.
