MUW’s Homecoming set for April 21-23

COLUMBUS, Miss. -- Mississippi University for Women will host more than 1,000 alumni as part of Homecoming festivities scheduled for April 21-23.

Patsy McDaniel, director of alumni relations, said, “Our campus is so beautiful after the newly renovated buildings. In addition to seeing their old classmates and current students, alumni like to come back and see the campus.”

More than 60 events are planned with registration beginning at 9 a.m. in Rent Auditorium at Whitfield Hall.

Events kick off on Friday with the Golden Girls Luncheon for the class of ’56 at 11:30 a.m. in the Pope Banquet Room. Some of the alumni invited to attend this luncheon will be close to or over 100 years old.

The “Celebration of Service” dinner will be held in Thad and Rose Cochran Hall at 5:30 p.m. This dinner will honor alumna Gail Ferguson Laws ’97, and a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Lowndes County Scholarship Fund.

Other events on Friday include a Homecoming Networking Luncheon, a lunch and boat ride, a campus tour, the alumnae board meeting, a video presentation of “MUW Through the Years” and “Magnificent Mozart,” a MUW Chorale concert.

The evening will end with Karaoke with alumna Tina Morgan ’88 at The Sports Page restaurant.

On Saturday, early birds can enjoy breakfast with the Wesley Foundation at 8 a.m.

Mag Chain will begin at 9 a.m. on front campus, and afterward alumni will assemble for the Long Blue Line March. Participants will march with their classmates into Rent Auditorium.

Convocation will start at 10:30 a.m. in Rent Auditorium. The ceremony will include a brief business meeting, the Alumni Achievement Award presentation and recognition of classes and social clubs.

The rest of Saturday’s events will include Find Your Buddy, the W Art Student Sidewalk Sale, a luncheon near the Bryan Gazebo, class pictures, the W Tea with hat and gloves featuring period music in Puckett House, social club reunions and the Golden Girls open house.

A photography exhibit will be open from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. downtown at the Rosenzweig Arts Center featuring work by MUW Public Affairs Assistant Director Chris Jenkins and alumnae Betty Ruth Hawkins ’75 and Anne Rayner ’86.

Reunion class dinners will start at 6 p.m. and non-reunion classes and guests will join for dinner in Hogarth Cafeteria.

The day will conclude with a young alumni bash at Fat Daddy’s and the theater presentation, “The Foreigner,” both starting at 8 p.m.

Festivities will end on Sunday after a prayer service in Carrier Chapel at 9 a.m. and a farewell brunch in Hogarth Dining Center.
